Structure and Function

Human beings are mobile

Activities of daily living force human beings to walk, run or ride on a vehicle. For a person with a physical disability (temporary or permanent) due to disease or injury, moving from one place to another can be a problem.

Mobility and ambulation aids

Devices which are intended to enable a person with a physical limitation to move as independently and gracefully as desired, with greater ease and safety and without unwanted assistance. Canes, crutches and wheel chairs are familiar mobility aids.

An ambulation aid is a type of mechanical help to regain ability to walk or move about in a standing posture, even if it is slow and requires greater expenditure of energy. Walker is an ambulation aid.
