Structure and Function

The fingers are made of small tubular bones called phalanges. The thumb is made of two phalanges while the fingers are made of three phalanges each. The joints between the phalanges are called:

  • The Proximal Interphalangeal Joint (nearer to the palm).
  • The Distal Interphalangeal Joint (near the nail)
